The Center for Puppetry Arts was founded in 1978 by Vincent Anthony. It is the United States' largest organization dedicated to the art form of puppetry. The center focuses on three areas: performance, education, and museum. It is one of the few puppet museums in the world.
The center is located in Midtown and was originally opened in the Historic Spring Street Elementary School. The renovation and expansion was completed in 2015 and includes exhibition space, a new library, and archival space as well as a new entryway. The expansion includes the world's most comprehensive collection of Jim Henson's puppets and artifacts.
